Founded in the fall of 1994 by Claudio Alcara, Frostmoon
Eclipse is one of the first established black metal bands
on the Italian metal scene, presenting the traditional for the band
mixture of acoustics and old school black metal, following the
traditions of the local scene and deftly adding elements from the
Swedish, French and Norwegian stages, creating monumental
records.
Each of the band members also contributes to many of the other big
names in the genre, such as Blut Aus Nord, Darvaza, Chaos
Invocation, Fides Inversa and many others, which speaks volumes
about the abilities of the musicians and their talent.
In “Rustworn” we are again witnessing the traditional techniques
of the band, as the interesting choice of acoustics is complemented
by cutting guitars, melodic passages and old school atmosphere.
In just over 34 minutes, Frostmoon Eclipse is erupting in full
force, presenting both amazing new and live studio recordings, as
the last three tracks – “Hell Thousandfold”, “Devoured” and “Torn
Apart By The Withering Voices Of Deceit” are recorded during the
band’s concert in CG (Varese, Italy) on May 28, 2018, as part of
the band’s previous titles – “The Greatest Loss” (2016) and “A
Ticket to Nowhere” (2011).
The album begins with the eponymous song “Rustworn”, and here
you can hear a relentless emotional charge, beautiful melodic
guitars and fast blasts.
Some of the riffs in the intro of the next song, “Relentless,
Circling”, boldly remind me of the atmosphere of Blut Aus Nord from
“Memoria Vetusta II” and even “Hallucinogen”, although soon after
the Italian tradition completely captures the ear with the
traditional old school vocals of Lorenzo Sassi.
Once again, the band shows a great style of songwriting,
including a huge dose of intriguing elements to keep the fire
burning until the end of the composition in each of the pieces.
The live performances I mentioned, on the other hand, present a
really hot atmosphere and can take us to the darkened concert hall
and the inhuman charge that Frostmoon Eclipse carries during their
performances in front of an audience in just a few minutes.
“Rustworn” is a sultry record that
carries a lot of raw and unadulterated energy that keeps you in
suspense and makes you want more and more. Through a beautiful
style of songwriting, Frostmoon Eclipse once again consolidated
their legendary status and offered an
obsessive black metal record that carries the old school spirit ,
intertwined with a lot of outstanding
melodies and captivating dark
atmosphere.
