ABOUT
THE VOID is the first Balkan online journal (or as most call it – a webzine), dedicated exclusively to the BLACK METAL genre & subculture. It is a home of the most fascinating Dark Arts since MMXVII (2017). The website provides the latest relevant black metal news, carefully crafted black metal reviews, interviews with black metal musicians and other unique black metal manuscripts, relevant to the black metal scene Worldwide, with an accent on the often overlooked but extremely talented BALKAN BLACK METAL SCENE.
THE VOID was founded by Paula Fazlich (Morthriel) – an artist with long history in the dark arts, in Sofia, Bulgaria. The website was officially launched during the mystical night of January 5th to 6th MMXVII as a wordpress blog, then gradually became what you see at this point. Rooted in the shadows of the music world, the website has since become a dedicated beacon for those seeking to explore the depths of the most worthy underground soundscapes, offering insight into the raw, enigmatic, and often overlooked corners of the music scene.
The idea behind the journal is clear from the very beginning – to pay due respect to the the known or lesser known specific dark sounds of the Balkan and global underground, dedicated specifically to the black metal genre (with few exceptions through time).
As an ideology, the journal supports the belief that the dark Arts and culture are the main tool to fight our society’s mediocre existence, to fight against its limitations and herd thinking, to destroy dogma and imposed false morals. In other words, THE VOID is a symbol of rebellion against society and its lower manifestations. A symbol of personal growth, strength and enlightenment. Following the Left Hand Path as a philosophy, the website encourages the power of the individualist and their own spiritual wandering.
INTERESTING FACTS
1. The birth date of THE VOID is a thoughtful one – the Christian feast called “Krystovden” is celebrated on January 5th, and on January 6th the believers celebrate “Epiphany”. The date is, figuratively speaking, marking the beginning of the “epiphany” & “conversion” with fascinating “blasphemy” under the dark robe of THE VOID.
2.The main website language from January 2017 until November 1st 2024, was Bulgarian – the oldest Slavic language. After the mentioned date, all content is written in English, with the desire every dark soul to feel at home and welcome while reading.
3. THE VOID is the first Bulgarian music media/website working directly with labels like Season of Mist, Terratur Possessions, Prophecy Productions & etc.
4. THE VOID is the first online (and not only online) media in the Balkans dedicated entirely to black metal and the dark Arts.
5. THE VOID is the first online metal music media in the Balkans entirely created and maintained by a woman (worth mentioning since Bulgaria is known for its misogyny and femicide, not because this website is of feminist nature).
