The Portuguese black metal horde ANZV unveils a new song from their upcoming new opus, “Kur”, about to be released on May 30 via Edged Circle Productions (https://bit.ly/4dkh0v0).
The Portuguese music scene has delivered many fine moments through the years. Porto, the undefeated city, has never surrendered to foreign powers. Creating their own version of black metal, otherworldly and different, yet traditional, ANZV don´t differ that much from the essence of Porto´s legacy. They to refuse to give in to the mental void making invasion of the modern world and spirit. Portugal has a very dark musical side and combining this with the Sumerian underworld causes extra creepy, hostile and mysterious soundscapes to take place.
The band is not a newcomer, but they are bringer of new impulses. Challenging the spiritual possibilities of seeing beyond the void and into the nothingness of nothing. Opening your ears and hearts to the underworld of nihilism and despair. Taking their name from the Mesopotamian monster figure Anzû. Described as a divine storm bird who could breathe fire and water or in some descriptions as a lion-headed eagle. Either also as the personification of the southern wind and the thunder clouds.
Their music speaks for itself, however. Fabolous musicianship on every instrument and a great live band, they have managed to create their own sound and image of another world in their own special way.
With this new opus “KUR”, the listeners step into the abyss with this hauntingly poetic journey, where ancient rites and mythic forces collide. From the crumbling remains of mortality to the fierce storm of forgotten Sumerian demons, this collection pulses with raw emotion, evoking despair, awe, and confrontation with the unknown. The verses weave between realms—through ancient gates, under the shadow of mighty deities, and into the depths of the void—where one encounters the desolation of forgotten rites and the terror of nightmarish entities. Amidst these powerful themes, the eternal dance between life and death, pride and submission, unfolds. Dive into the cosmic ocean, where stars fade, voices of the gods resound, and hope flickers like a dying flame.
