From the shadow-veiled terrains of Toowoomba, Australia, emerges Akhoth, a three-piece heathen black metal force that now steps fully into the void with their debut full-length release, “Of Might and Hierarchy”. A seven-track conjuration of medieval black meal, this album offers a ritualistic plunge into darkness — one steeped in both reverence for the genre’s old masters and a distinct, sovereign spirit. Independently released by the band and produced by Gaslight Studios, “Of Might and Hierarchy” is now available in digital format here: https://bit.ly/4kmTRLr.
From the first moments, Akhoth draw their swords with intent. Tracks such as “Veil of the Cosmic Night”, “Oath of Iron and Blood”, and “…of Ambivalence and Iniquity” speak a lot about their chosen path: one of sovereignty, shadow, and esoteric might. The titles alone hint at an inner cosmology — a lyrical universe carved from ruins and rites.
Musically, Akhoth offer a raw yet carefully sculpted sound that calls to mind the early darkness of the Norwegian second wave, yet never loses its own pulse. Unhinged, high-pitched vocals slash through the haze like cursed winds, while distorted, frostbitten guitars weave both melody and menace in equal measure. The rhythms shift from ritualistic marches to fevered assaults, allowing moments of breathless tension to burst into full-blown wrath — a sonic architecture that respects tradition but refuses to remain bound by it.
Akhoth refer to themselves as a heathenistic black metal band, and that designation rings true: there is true devotion to vision and tone. “Of Might and Hierarchy” is a statement of sovereignty and strength, a flag planted in scorched earth. Akhoth rise as a new heralding voice — ancient in spirit, unrelenting in execution.
