Heavily inspired by the ancient lands of Ireland and Welsh myths and traditions, DUTHAIG have their roots in old-school black metal alongside atmospheric black metal and urbanized trip-hop vibes. The Swiss band draws a new bridge between traditional knowledge and the modern world.
For fans of Winterfylleth, Negura Bunget, Ulver, Wodensthrone and more.
In old Ireland, “duthaig” was the name of land passed down by inheritance from father to son. In this context, the band wanders through the ancestral themes of the old lands, presenting majestic landscapes.
Featuring members of bands such as Inhumane Existence, 3 Days Of Silence and Mordor, the band mixes old-school black metal riffs with post-rock and post-black metal parts, even trip-hop beats to recreate a melancholic and evocative music.
After their well-received demo, DUTHAIG can now present their
debut full-length album to the world.
“Hiraeth” contains eight epic tracks filled with grandeur and
melancholy, and in the title we can also hear a guest appearance by
Steve Blackwood from the UK band Old Corpse Road and of course, an
intelligently honed lyrical concept.
Heavily inspired by Irish and Welsh myths, texts and traditions, but also constantly questioning the current state of society, “Hiraeth” creates a bridge between the past and the future, much like the “duthaig” which is passed down to the next generation and dissolves into memories and myths. This spirit is perfectly matched by the incredible iron sculpture of the debut cover, created by Swiss artists Mary Jo and Raphy Buttet, and shot in the Swiss Alps.
