The Estonian black metal band Kõdu has unleashed the first single from their upcoming full-length title, to be released in the near future via Antiq Records (more info to be unveiled soon). As a concept album rooted in Estonian mysticism and folklore, the new material reinterprets classic second wave black metal through the lens of synth-driven atmospheres and orchestral-epic influences.
“Kirjad Sõgedate Külast” might be translated as “”Letters from the Village of the Witches”. Under the same name exists a work by Juhan Smuul, the first edition of which was published in 1955. It consists of eight parts/letters. Later, in 1966, a film titled “Kirjad Sõgedate Külast” was unveiled, following the action of two letters — “Ahasute” and “Pühadekari hukumine”.
Influenced by these works, Kõdu promise to unleash a work steeped in the surreal, infused with twisting narratives, haunting atmospheres, and the raw intensity of black metal.
