Italian black metallers FROSTMOON ECLIPSE premiere their upcoming 8th full-length album, “As Time Retreats”,in its entirety. The album is about to be officially released on September 26th via Immortal Frost Productions in various physical formats.
All music was recorded at Beastcave Studio, Italy, and later engineered, mixed and mastered by Davide Gorrini. It was composed by Claudio Alcara, while all the lyrics were crafted precisely by Lorenzo Sassi. In the album you can witness the appearance of guest vocals by The Watcher of Fen on “Out in the Grey Light”. All layout & Design were handed to View From The Coffin.
FROSTMOON ECLIPSE is one of the longest serving Black Metal bands on the Italian scene. Formed in the autumn of 1994, the band has long been known for combining Old School Black Metal with acoustic interludes of haunting beauty, setting it apart from the usual fast and chaotic sound one would expect from the genre and creating an atmosphere all of its own. Following just their inner feelings and avoiding trends of any kind, FROSTMOON ECLIPSE are not famous enough to bow down to compromises. Their early era was characterized by a surely rawer approach until the signing with Osmose Production for their groundbreaking album “The End Stands Silent” that redefined the shape of the band towards a more mature and monolithic sound. Lyrics can be described as a nightmare between deep depression and pure nihilism that bring the listeners into a journey towards the unknown of the human psyche, where darkness wins the feeble light of hope.
In early 2018 FROSTMOON ECLIPSE signed a contract with Immortal Frost Productions for the release of their 7th Full Length album. On 25th October 2019 “Worse Weather To Come” (featuring J.J. from Harakiri For The Sky & Karg) was released on CD, Vinyl (3 different colours) alongside a fitting album shirt. Which showed a whole new direction to the sound of the band, now even fuller of rock influences and with a post-black metal feeling throughout the record, completed by lyrics focusing on the darkest and more negative sides of life.
This new perspective has been confirmed and brought even further by the band with the release of 2022’s EP “Rustworn”, a taste of what their forthcoming album will be together with three live tracks that put on display their straight and old school rock attitude on stage and mastering of their craft.
Now, with “As Time Retreats”, again released via Immortal Frost
Productions, the black metal legends FROSTMOON ECLIPSE return to
bring their truth and delve into the realms of the Unknown.
In 2024, Frostmoon Eclipse celebrated their 30th anniversary, which
saw new light to their first 4 studio albums, and this year the
band returns with their 8th full length album “As Time Retreats”.
On this album the band explores deeper into their distinguished
signature sound where Black Metal is mixed with Classic Rock.
Furthermore the band has implied some surprising Post elements and
even some Death / Doom moments (think of Katatonia, My Dying Bride
and the likes) and this all for the better!!!
The production of their new record remains within known territory as we’re used to, with a raw, yet, clear enough sound. The music itself, even though hearing the formidable Frostmoon Eclipse sound, has adapted to some new elements as addressed previously and this all for the better. The guitars as we know them keep rocking those old school black metal riffing and then come to peace with some beautiful enchanting rock melodies which once again have been able to capture the listener into a wonderful journey of music. The bass guitar delivers an outstanding support in filling up the gaps and brings the heaviness to the music on the right moments, but that’s not all! There are several parts where the bass is the lead figure which lifts the whole feeling of the total sound to an even high spirit. The drums are pounding their way through the record with a simple note to give a full breathing to the string instruments. Le moment supreme might yet be the vocals who come with a refreshing new approach as we do not hear only harsh or raspy scream vocals, no sir! There is even enough room for a wide diversity of clean vocals and even some speech vocals which gives the album a completely relaxed touch and it fits extremely well, if I may say so.
“As Time Retreats” is a refreshing and yet still a very old school record that will capture the attention of both new and old fans and last but not least, that can be enjoyed to the fullest from start ‘till end.
