A lightning bolt from the blue, Siechknecht storm forth with a four-song assault of stoic pride and stomping arrogance: the four-song / 24-minute “Pestmond”. Fronting the band is the ever-prolific Revenant, renown for Sarkrista and Order of Nosferat among others, and he’s backed by a trio of black metal hooligans who create a stirring torrent of conquest and triumph. With insanely hummable melodies raised to the sky like swords ablaze at dawn, “Pestmond” largely pulses to a taut-yet-cruising mid-tempo march that’s hypnotic and bloodlusting in equal measure; when the speed picks up, it’s a flowing & fluid gallop that continues that cool-cruise sensation. Powerfully and poignantly, Siechknecht embody the best elements of nowadays Teutonic black metal – austerely melodic, instantly ingraining, professionally produced, and pumping pagan blood – with a nod or two toward the contemporaneous Finnish school, altogether making “Pestmord” a record that’s classically rooted yet contemporary. When Valkyries ride, this shall be the new soundtrack!
