Hailing from Finland, Sammas’ Equinox reveal their second full-length offering, “Pohjanheimo”. The release is out now independently by the band in several digital formats, and via Breath of Pestilence on CD (you can grab both here: https://bit.ly/47HWcN2).
With “Pohjanheimo”, Sammas’ Equinox rise once again from the fires of the underworld to reach the high peak of Kipuvuori… Pain Mountain, or Kipuvuori, is a place in Finnish folklore, located in the underworld of Tuonela, where spirits like Kivutar and Kiputyttö collect and contain human pain. This mythological mountain is situated at the confluence of three rivers, and at its summit is a kivukivi (pain rock) with holes where pains can be gathered and “stored” in order to be taken away. These rocks, sometimes called “cup-marked rocks,” were used in healing spells to transfer pain from people into the stone. Sammas’ Equinox take this fascinating part from the Finnish folklore, turning it into a cleansing ritual of bleak and atmospheric sound, transporting you into the depths of the ancient structure.
