Austrian black metal entity Amenhotep reveals the spell “Utterance of Restoration” – a first glimpse into its forthcoming debut offering. “Utterances for the Dead” will be released independently on December 4th (CD, Tape, Digital).
The song centers entirely on ancient Egyptian death rites and mythology. Specifically, “Utterance of Restoration” invokes the ancient Opening of the Mouth ritual (Wep-waut / Wep-ret). In Egyptian tradition, this ritual was performed on a mummy or statue to restore the deceased person’s senses (breathing, speaking, eating, and seeing) so they could survive the perilous journey through the underworld, known as the Duat.
