L’Homme Absurde : Belong

L’Homme Absurde : Belong

L’Homme Absurde means “the absurd man”  in french.
The band was formed in 2015 in Moscow by Alexey Slavin (A Young Man’s Funeral, Mare Infinitum (live), ex-Who Dies in Siberian Slush, ex-Comatose Vigil) , who was the only member of the band for a little more than an year.
Later in time, in 2016, the one man band becomes a full member structure , as four other members join L’Homme Absurde .
The current line up includes Alexey Slavin – vocals, Alexandr Safronov – guitar,Roman Savenkov – guitar , Pavel Gorshkov – bass & Evgeny Loboda – drums.
With their art – the debut „Monsters“ and their second full length, „Sleepless“, the band is bravely following the tendency of L’Homme Absurde to experiment in musical aspect and to present their own view, without actually following the black metal traditional rules very strictly.
What I’m saying is that the band is offering far more than that.

Today I have the honor to tell a little more about their forthcoming third title, called “Belong”, which is supposed to be released on January 20th 2020.

Tracklist:

  1. 0
  2. Rot
  3. Belong
  4. Separation
  5. Departure
  6. Burn
  7. Forsaken
  8. Sanctuary

The album starts out very atmospherically, prompting us with an eerie melody that goes smoothly into Alexey’s vocals sensual trance.
Post-black metal sound, very light and at the same time deep and strongly engaging with your mind and heart.
The second song in the album, „Rot“, is a lot heavier than the album intro.
Raw blasts and guitar riffs frame the whole song very well and support the inhumanly beautiful symbiosis between the harsh vocals, the rhythmic elements in the instrumental and its heavier inclusions.
„Belong“ is a real emotional eruption.
I get really surprised sometimes by the ability of the musicians to be so primal , pure and methodical at the same time during their performances.
In this song, I feel absolutely just that – purity , strong emotion and at the same time very methodical and quality performance.
I also like how skillfully L’Homme Absurde combines post-black metal with post-rock.
There are some interesting moments in this song that definitely draw attention in this regard.
Maneuvering between the styles and their skillful combination seems to be a feature of the band’s creativity and gives them a great dose of character.
In „Separation“ I expected to hear something slow, gloomy, oppressive, but in fact, from the very first seconds, I feel the exact opposite – the song starts with a quick pace and tempo, leaving rather a feeling of liberation, a longing for a way out of the dark tunnel, a desire to go through the darkness for the clear purpose of entering the fire with an open heart and mind, leaving the ashes of everything unnecessary in it.
A powerful and transformational song, marking the beginning of a powerful catharsis.
“Departure” is a story about a new beginning.
A song about the strength it takes sometimes to give up .
A song about how healing it really is to allow yourself to experience all the pain, for the sake of a better tomorrow.
Post-black metal, presented in a very beautiful, soulful way.
In “Burn”, everything already changes its appearance in the flames.
The atmosphere – heavy, burning, transformative!
The penultimate song, „Forsaken“, is screaming its primacy beyond recognition.
Both instrumental and vocals seem to have spoken beforehand to confront us with their most suffocating and yet beautiful shot.
Then … „Sanctuary“ comes, and brings with it the true event of the cathartic experience.
The breath of air after passing through hell and its fire.
The scream after the rebirth.
The sanctuary of your soul, in which you come freed from the burden, spiritually revived … and whole.

I would say that “Belong” is unearthly and beautiful work that comes directly from the inner world of the performers, which makes it invaluable.
Purity in music is something that cannot be tampered, and here we feel it in every chord and verse.
When we add the masterful performance to the equation, it becomes clear that we are talking about something really special.
A transformative album that takes you through a whole cosmic and deep process of awareness.

Faforite song : „Sanctuary“.
It was very difficult for me to choose just one song to separate from the rest, but maybe the beautiful guitar work (I really adore what you, guys , did here) and the evocative feeling that the song left in me made me very prone to it.
