Two of the recently inspiring names of the Polish underground black metal scene – ANGRRSTH and CZORT – combined their efforts in a joint split record. On the fiery „W czeluść“ both bands present two furious new tracks each, with a total duration a bit over 25 minutes.
ANGRRSTH released their debut full-length album „Donikąd“ last
year, marking their place in the Polish underground and once again
living up to the expectations of the label Godz ov War Productions,
with whom they have partnered for the release of their entire
discography to date.
The band’s sound is raw and unadulterated – dark and atmospheric
black metal, always played intelligently and massively,
obsessively. If you are a fan of the Polish black metal scene –
ANGRRSTH are among its new representatives, closely following all
its characteristics and creating music in a manic way.
A little further away from the sound of ANGRRSTH, Czort are a few years older band and have already two long-playing albums behind them, and their overall look and sound is entirely dedicated to blasphemy, evil and darkness. Their last full-length album, „Apostoł“, came out in 2020 and made an impression with its dose of melody and solid spheres.
With bands like this – each with their own distinct vibe and energy, a split album definitely sounds like something very interesting. And it definitely is. While Czort lean towards a sinister Khold vibe with an emphasis on darkness, ANGRRSTH exude the purity and fury of Mgła, touching on themes of human consciousness and spirit. Darkness and nihilism everywhere you look. Getting out of the snares of this web of reverberating emotions and malice is entirely impossible.
The first two tracks on the record are played by ANGRRSTH.
Opener „Pętla“ blasts forth directly and uncompromisingly, not
caring at all whether or not you’re ready to take on the winds of
fury it throws at you. The track is rhythmic, fierce, vicious and
disturbing – it doesn’t leave you even for a moment to think about
what is happening.
„Przerwana“ – the second track from ANGRRSTH, continues the
suffocating atmosphere of the previous performance, this time
adding a little more atmosphere in the instrumental and some
influences are immediately felt, somewhat reminiscent of the
Ukrainian black metal scene and artists such as Drudkh.
A beautiful combination of bestial energy, ethereal
atmosphere, refreshing dynamics and nihilism, frankness in every
single note and spoken, whispered or shouted lyrics.
Reuniting with their mates and the nihilistic theme they had already started, Czort continue the story of the unrelenting fall of humanity, with their first track demonstrating more melodic guitars and solos typical for their own style of making music, this time accompanied by more massive vocals and an obsessive tempo . The same goes for the closing track ‘Ofiara’, with colder atmospheric elements when it comes to the guitar work.
And all this – completed by the touching cover art by Igor Datkiewicz of WS Artworks, perfectly capturing the essence of the album and its surreal darkness, depicting the fall into impenetrable darkness and flesh-reaching demons.
With unrelenting ferocious energy, ANGRRSTH
and Czort share with us four monumental tales of despair, fall,
hatred and sacrifice. Nihilistic music saturated with the nuances
of pure expression and brutal, violent raw emotion traditionally
embedded in Polish black metal.
„W
czeluść“ dissolves the abyss and invites the bravest ones to plunge
into its mysterious subterranean
darkness…
