When it comes to extreme metal, among the most important
components for a listener, in my opinion, is to be just that –
extreme, red hot, thought provoking.
Well, newly formed black metal band Bolverk tackles the task
brilliantly and without an iota of remorse.
Bolverk is a quartet formed in 2020, who in May released their
debut full-length album “Uaar” via the label WormHoleDeath. The
band members may be well known to you, but I won’t dwell on their
musical careers.
Incorporating elements of black and death metal – beautiful death
metal solos, gorgeous lower and high vocals that make the skin
crawl, their music speaks volumes for their experience and the
passion they have for what they do.
The band strongly reminds me of several favorite bands at the
same time, including the irreplaceable Marduk, although I can
safely say that Bolverk have their own signature, which is
immediately felt with the first track of the album, “Death the
Whore”.
Quite skeptically playing the album, at some point I realized that
I’ve been playing this song for half an hour…a huge hook, with an
incredible rhythm.
“Uaar” is an album that hits like a hurricane, with hooks in all the right places, the energy is ferocious and the bloodshed is inevitable. Through a huge amount of mastery, catchy instrumental flirtations and pure vocal malice, Bolverk erupt and take it all with them and their avalanche of deep emotions. If you’re looking for something that will make you growl along with the band’s vocalist and break your neck, then ‘Uaar’ brings it to you in a rough and roundabout way.

Mother of THE VOID.
Underground music is the ultimate weapon against mediocrity.
