Soaring through the outer space accompanied by majestic massive calls and haunting atmospheric soundscapes can become a reality with Omega Infinity’s new full-length, ‘The Anticurrent’.
This time the international black metal duo explores the theory of Time and Space with a focus on the Big Bang and the chaotic birth of the universe, with the album emphasizing the rise and fall of human civilization, zooming back out to a cosmic scale afterwards to witness the inevitable end of the universe in an ominous and menacing finale.
The title features seven tracks and arrives with two bonus
covers – Sear Bliss’ ‘Night Journey’ and Emperor’s ‘Ye
Entrancemperium’, clocking in at almost an hour – a thoroughly
satisfying cosmic opus.
In addition to the traditional surprise with covers of
favorite tracks, Omega Infinity once again invited friends as guest
artists to the album: Adrienne Cowan (SEVEN SPIRES) – clean and
harsh vocals in “Iron Age”, Lindsay Schoolcraft (ANTIQVA, ex-CRADLE
OF FILTH a.m.m.) – speech and harsh vocals on “Death Rays”, András
Nagy (SEAR BLISS) – harsh vocals on “Voices From The End Of
Time” and “Night Journey”, Marta J. Braun (TODTGELICHTER, VYRE) –
clean and harsh vocals on “Ye Entranceemperium’.
In addition to the bright guests and concept of the album, the
production is at the highest level, which can be expected from the
band traditionally, but also due to the fact that once again the
mastering was entrusted to the great musician and sound engineer
Markus Stock.
So… If you want to know what countless black holes erupting in a
powerful explosion sound like – look no further. Omega Infinity
have taken the task of illustrating the experience in sound quite
seriously.
Opening with the chaotic and all-consuming track ‘The Alpha’, where
Xenoyr’s ferocious calls are accompanied by eerily fast drums and
melodic keyboard in stark contrast to the fuzzy maelstrom of
sounds, ‘The Anticurrent’ gradually fleshes out.
I immediately thought that in the very first track the music sounds
more raw and glorious than what I expected to hear – a very
pleasant surprise compositionally – guaranteed to give you
goosebumps at least once.
Engaging and sprawling all over your mind, the song paints a
picture of the birth of a black hole ready to captivate and swallow
any cosmic debris.
„We are purpose
The force of pandemonium
Behold the breach
Unfolding reason
The chaos accord“
Using electronic and ambient sounds in some parts of the tracks,
along with cold guitars, drums in different tempo and technique,
ritualistic chants, whispers, screams and soaring clear vocals…
Omega Infinity create a true hallucination, fascinating in every
aspect.
And it gets even better. The well-chosen guests add magnificent
nuances to the fullness of the album – Adrienne Cowan on “Iron Age”
seems to be the most impressive combination. The vocalist erupts
and merges completely with what the idea behind the song is and the
symbiosis is unique to listen to. Once again, I am convinced of
Xen’s musical flair for such collaborations.
With thematic lyrics and a compelling story, “The Anticurrent”
is one of those albums that grabs the listener’s attention with its
variety and chaos. From weighty atmosphere and fiery vocals, you
can find yourself amidst soaring instrumentals and witchy
ritualistic ominous whispers.
Adrien Bousson’s cover artwork perfectly describes what is
happening in the album – the black hole dissolves with all its
power and absorbs every drop of light around it, ruling over its
cosmic space. It vibrates in different frequencies, pulsates to the
very end with the rhythm of Infinity. It embodies very well the
magic of the title and the atmosphere you can expect in it.
With many new instrumental surprises and energetic diverse vocal
performances, Omega Infinity takes us through the collapse of
millions of stars and the birth of the destructive power of the
black hole, to the very absolute end of Everything.
At the center of the Milky Way, the supermassive black hole Sgr A*,
with a mass 4.3 million times the mass of the Sun, was
actually photographed recently after a long scientific
effort. The data confirm that almost all the mass in the center of
our galaxy belongs to it.
Play the album, immerse yourself in the chaotic dust of space and
the magic of outlined starscapes, and ponder it.
The outer space, recreated through “The Anticurrent”, carries all
the prerequisites for an astral cosmic journey among the dying
stars until the end of time.

We are The Void
We are the voices from the end of time”
