The Germans MNHG play explosive black ‘n’ roll, in which they interweave themes of the occult, blasphemy and a number of other dark influences. Their debut full-length album ‘Mundare’ was released in 2021 via Immortal Frost Productions , but it’s actually worth mentioning that the musicians have nearly 20 years of experience in the black metal scene before releasing this album. Kain, Irrsinn and Morbus were all part of the cult German black metal band Thyrgrim, which disbanded in 2019, and after its split the musicians decided to devote themselves to a slightly different kind of black metal under the newly chosen name MNHG, which according to themselves is an elision of the word “Manheig” and is a transcription of the Hebrew word for “leader” or “ruler”.
Would the band live up to their moniker with their second
full-length album, Necare? Categorically.
Even with the name of the album, which means “to kill” in
translation from Latin, the work gives a very accurate and clear
hint of what is to come. Over the course of nine tracks in the
space of around 40 minutes, MNHG demonstrate a furious energy
while following their own established tradition.
From the very first seconds of opener ‘The First Sacrifice’, an
energetic wall of wild vocals and tight guitars fills the space,
making it almost impossible not to want to headbang at least once.
And not only this primacy makes an impression. There are details in
the piece, thanks to which the band’s composing skills become
even more apparent – in the continuation of the song we can hear
Floyd Rose and beautiful extended riffs, a nice traditional
Norwegian groove, and besides them, the change of tempo is also
interesting – at times it is leading us momentarily to a deep and
ritualistic atmosphere… only to erupt again into the MNHG flame and
a raging whirlwind of mid-tempo rhythms and demonic high-pitched
vocals that haunt the space.
„Die,
by my hand.
You are my sacrifice,
payed with blood!
My first sacrifice,
For I am the king.“
Nihilism and a really intense hatred for humanity’s lower manifestations, as well as the inadequacy of the Christian religion, are among the highlights of “Necare”, while these themes are skillfully mixed with occultism, enlightenment and the search for truth in a world of illusions and senseless wars . Also in the foreground is the manifestation of personal power, with some of the lyrics directly related to the image of Lucifer and his ascension to the throne.
Musically, “Necare” is a diverse album with varying atmosphere and tempo, combining in places beautiful black ‘n’ roll elements with more ritualistic and slow tempos. The vocals are even higher and monstrous, the atmosphere is seemingly colder and rooted in the essence of black metal – as in the track “Lucifer’s Claim”, for example. In the song we can hear ritualistic speech and more traditional black metal elements – the distortion is in the foreground during most of the duration, and there is also a beautiful atmospheric instrumental section that definitely makes the song very memorable and pleasant to the ear.
„I try, to reach the stars.
I will be, the most high.
A wanderer in the rain.
I will build my throne,
above the stars of God!
This is the way!
This is my fight!“
At the end, “Necare” is among the fiery albums that carry their own wild nature and reveal its essence to the listener in a very raw and organic way. The album has a specific groove, a bit of gothic, occult and cold black metal atmosphere that brings an amazing listening experience. And on top of that, the very fierce charge of the lyrics and vocals are incendiary and elevate the spirit into a special state of existence. A surge of pure power and passion comes with every song on the album and cements MNHG’s reigning position as black ‘n’roll masters who can tease your ears with their old-school precision. The killer force of “Necare” is waiting (in)patiently to devour your already corrupted hearing, and there’s no doubt – you’re going to like it very much.
