“FIVRRIST” is the third full-length album from the German solo black metal project Erzfeynd, the final part of the coveted trilogy VOM ENDE DER WELT. In addition to the project’s leader, Nahdrut Herlarecks, the album features a number of guest musicians: Elisabetta Marchetti (STORMLORD, RITI OCCULTI, INNO), Irrwycht (GRABUNHOLD, SCHRECKEN, UNGOD, BAXAXAXA), Menetekel (UNGFELL, KVELGEYST), E (FLAGELLANT, MALAKHIM), and Lord Abravanel (HOUSE OF FIRST LIGHT, LOOSEY) contribute additional vocals, while Tanner Anderson (OBSEQUIAE, MAJESTIES) performs on hurdy-gurdy, and Geoff Blackwell (ENCLOAKED, GATEKEEPER) enriches the sound with synthesizers on the outro. Given these elements, it’s clear that this album transcends the typical boundaries of black metal, offering something far more unexpected and layered than what you might expect from the genre.
Opera soprano vocals soaring over tapestries of pure black metal instrumentation create an incredibly captivating and unexpected combination, setting the tone for “Niderfal”, the opening track of the album. Elisabetta Marchetti stands out as a truly unique vocalist, her voice rich and commanding with an impressive range that stretches from delicate, ethereal passages to soaring, operatic heights. Beyond her remarkable performance throughout the song, it is the haunting folk chant she delivers at the very end—a melody rooted in Bulgarian and other Slavic traditions—that truly cements her versatility, adding an evocative layer to the song’s conclusion.
The second track, “Extra Mvros,” plunges us into the ominous depths of Erzfeynd, where traditional black metal vocals emerge in a fury of raw, subjugating energy. The rhythm of these vocals, coupled with the fierce, relentless instrumentation, creates an atmosphere of maddened desperation. But the track’s intensity doesn’t end there. As the song progresses, haunting backing vocals drift in and out, adding darkwave nuances that bleed melancholy into the furious soundscape, enhancing the track’s sense of introspection.
But the best is yet to come…
The instrumentation unfolds with a majestic grandeur in the next
tracks , where the ferocity of black metal riffs clashes with the
ancient, earthy tones of folk elements. The soaring guitars carry
an ethereal, almost royal quality, weaving intricate melodies that
evoke ancient tales of battles and legends. A special energy hums
beneath, conjuring images of a forgotten era, while whispers and
distant voices weave through the soundscape, adding a haunting,
spectral presence. Interspersed with devastating screams that cut
through the atmosphere like a ghostly cry, the music pulses with a
relentless energy, almost ritualistic in its intensity.
The eerie sound of bells tolling in the distance heightens the
sense of foreboding, as if signaling the coming of a dark, medieval
fate. This blend of oppressive black metal fury with folk-inspired,
medieval textures creates an immersive, tempestuous atmosphere—one
that feels both timeless and deeply connected to the ancient
spirits of the earth.
FIVRRIST” is an enchanting medieval tale in the form of a majestic black metal production, blending sophistication with a raw, untamed atmosphere. Its intricate melodies and brutal intensity evoke the spirit of forgotten kingdoms and ancient rituals, drawing the listener into a dark, timeless world. The fusion of ethereal medieval elements with the ferocity of black metal creates a captivating journey, where each moment feels like a step deeper into the heart of an old-world mystery. Perfect for anyone wandering through ancient ruins or lost in the reverie of long-forgotten lore, this album is a mesmerizing experience, both haunting and alluring.
