A grand black metal spectacle is coming on Saturday, May 10th at Boogaloo, Zagreb (HR)! On this occasion, Croatian fans will be introduced to the Norwegian black metal 1349 for a first time! The concert is part from the European “The Wolf and the King” tour of the band along with three other incredible entities: German The Ruins of Beverast, American Vitriol, and Swedish Sarcator (see all dates below). Early bird tickets are available for 29 euros through the Hangtime ticket system, and after that, the presale price will be 33 euros. If there are any remaining on the day of the event, they will cost 36 euros. Tickets are also available at Dirty Old Shop!
1349 was formed in 1997 in Oslo, named after the year of the arrival of the plague in Norway. Before that, the members were part of the band Alvheim. In the early stages, they were open about their influences from bands like Mayhem and Celtic Frost. “I didn’t like the direction black metal took in the mid-90s,” recalls Ravn, the vocalist and driving force behind 1349. “It started to lose everything I loved about black metal—the gloominess, the eeriness, the primal emotions that drew me in and immersed me in that world. Suddenly, bands started wearing pirate shirts and looked like goths. It destroyed something that was truly close to my heart.” The musician connected with bassist Seidemann and then-guitarist Tjalve to bring his vision of reviving the original spirit of black metal to life. The long-standing lineup, which includes Ravn, Seidemann, guitarist Archaon, and drummer Frost (Satyricon), has remained unchanged since 2001. “I found people who felt the same way I did,” says Ravn of his bandmates. “We wanted to restore the authenticity of Norwegian black metal as it was in the early ‘90s. Every time we release an album, it’s our inspiration and true core.”
“The Wolf and the King” is the latest journey, offered by the band (read the review here). Their eighth album showcases how skillfully they have channeled the primal energy of black metal’s revolutionary second phase through ancient mysteries and relentless global chaos of the 2020s.

The Ruins of Beverast is a blackened doom metal
project formed in 2003 in Aachen by Alexander von
Meilenwald. “Beverast” is a variation of the word “Bifröst,”
inspired by the ancient Norse term for the bridge between Midgard
and Asgard. In his live performances, Alexander is
accompanied by a supporting band, though on all six of his studio
albums, he handled vocals and instrumentals himself. His albums
have even been reviewed by Der Spiegel. On this occasion,
he will present a selection of his greatest hits from his rich
career, alongside his most recent album, “The Thule
Grimoires”.

Vitriol is an American death metal band formed
in 2013, hailing from Portland, just like their black metal
counterparts UADA. They began their journey eight years
earlier as Those Who Lie Beneath. With two albums under
their belt, their latest release, “Suffer & Become”, with
10 tracks, was released by Century Media.

Sarcator is a black thrash/metal band formed in
2018 in Trollhättan, Sweden. Interestingly, their name is a blend
of their influences: Sarcofago + Kreator. The
band is very young, with some members still in their early teenage
years when they started. They’ve harnessed this youthful energy as
a powerful driving force in their creation, and they already have
three albums to their name. Their latest, “Swarming Angels &
Flies”, was released in mid-January this year.
