The well-known Ukrainian black metal project До Скону unveils its latest offering, “Ritual of Transition”. This is the final work of prolific Do Skonu and is an intricated and intriguing piece of pure black metal. A relentless work of riff-genius and a masterclass in songwriting. Overall faster and more complex than previous albums, with no room for unnecessary experimentation or one-dimensional parts, and each song with its own unique characteristics.
With a sharper sound and more violent production compared to the previous “…and darkness was over the surface of the deep” (Zazen Sounds 2023), which tends more to a heavier death metal sound. But most significantly are the layers of riffs and webs of song structures, making this album stand in Do Skonu’s discography with head and shoulders above its precursors. This is rightfully an exit at the bands’ high point.

Varagian, the mastermind behind the project, shares:
“Before I put the project on hold, I recorded some new material. It included both new songs and old ones that no one had heard yet. Overall, there was enough material for several releases, but for now I’ve made this new album. There were several problems with its implementation and recording, in particular there were problems with recording the drums, but at the last moment my friend Gionata Potenti (from Darvaza, Frostmoon Eclipse, etc.) helped me record the drums. The sound of the album turned out to be very aggressive and high-pitched. I didn’t use any studios and recorded everything on my own, and then mixed the album myself, which is how I managed to achieve such a unique sound. And thanks to the help of Heidens Hart Records, the album was released on CD.”
