Some time before the official release, one of the Québec’s foremost atmospheric black metal bands MISERERE LUMINIS presents its third album, “Sidera”, in its entirety. Oscillating between dark kinetic energy and beauteous rapture, this singular band have delivered a melancholic epic-affecting, profound, and ultimately life-affirming.

Guitarist and vocalist Annatar comments on “Sidera”: “Our music is an alchemical process. The raw ore – pain, sadness, rage, doubt, loss – is surrendered to the fire. It has to melt down completely before it can become anything new. Smelting is a violent, consuming process. Then it is forged, shaped and hammered in a slow and deliberate work of refinement. What emerges is purified and transformed into something the raw ore could never have been on its own. There are definitely shadows in what we do. But for me, the end result doesn’t evoke the raw materials that went into it. What comes out on the other side feels energizing, even hopeful. What we’re really after isn’t pain or distress. It’s something closer to the tragic. And I think there’s an important distinction there. The tragic doesn’t crush you. It elevates you. It acknowledges the weight of human experience while still reaching for something transcendent. That’s the feeling we want to leave the listener with.”

MISERERE LUMINIS are an unorthodox, atmospheric Black Metal band who hail from Montreal and are born from the minds behind GRIS and SOMBRES FORÊTS, two prime-movers in the Québécois underground Black Metal scene. The band’s eponymous debut album was released in late 2009 on Sepulchral Productions, after which the band returned to the shadows. MISERERE LUMINIS was resurrected in 2018 for the creation of acclaimed second opus, “Ordalie“, which was unleashed in June 2023. Various live gigs – including an expansive Autumn 2024 tour through Europe with GIVRE – followed and demonstrated the band’s move towards a more luminous presence in future.

Intense works are currently in motion on an upcoming third album which will be released by Debemur Morti Productions.
