The French black metal horde GALIBOT reveals the first single from their upcoming second album “Catabase”, set to drop on May 8 via Les Acteurs de L’Ombre. With the new release GALIBOT continues to explore profound human themes, cementing a strong and singular artistic identity.

“Pénitent” offers a first glimpse into the project’s intense and immersive universe, inviting listeners on a striking, incandescent descent into the heart of the mines. It depicts the perilous work of elite miners tasked with a mission as essential as it is dangerous: igniting firedamp to purify the tunnels. Sent alone into the depths, the penitent, clad in water-soaked clothing as his only protection, crawls forward with torch in hand to consume the deadly gas. Heroic yet tragic, he embodies the constant struggle between survival and sacrifice. This gripping narrative inspires a musical composition that mirrors its subject: raw, intense, and deeply melancholic. “Pénitent” alternates between violent breaks, piercing leads, and more melodic, ethereal passages, conveying the full tension and duality of the story.

Produced and recorded at Minotaure Studio, then mixed and mastered at St Marthe Studio, this first single is accompanied by visuals crafted by David Stan, enhancing the immersion in this dark, story-rich universe.
