The Dutch melodic black metal duo Walg released
their sixth full-length offering, “VI”. The
self-released title explores themes of human misanthropy,
historical tragedies, and dark regional folklore. Sung entirely in
Dutch, the lyrics reflect the band’s core philosophy – a deep
disgust for the general stupidity of the human species, blended
with eerie narratives. Songs like “Het klooster van Ter Apel” focus
on a historic monastery located in the band’s home region of
Groningen, Netherlands, while tracks like “1597” anchor the record
in historical grimness and local tragedy. The themes are tied
together by overarching metaphors of isolation, generational doom
(“Erfvloek” / Hereditary Curse), and the cold embrace of nature
(“Nevel” / Fog).
