Ukrainian black metal band Dämmerung has set November 27th as the international release date for its fourth full-length album, “Son of the Mourning Star”. The musicians worked on the album between 2020 and 2021, being forced to cease all creative work and the mixing and mastering of the album because of the obvious reasons later in 2022. In 2026, “Son of the Mourning Star” was mixed and mastered by Johan Martin at Punch Sector Studios in Örebro, Sweden. The artwork was created by Nuno Zuki of Belial NekroArts, Portugal.
Founded in Kherson in autumn 2001 by vocalist Saurg and guitarist Kaschey, Dämmerung was among the first black metal bands in the city. Its debut album, “Follow Your Own Shadow”, was completed in 2003, making it the first black metal band from Kherson to release an album. Plans for live performances were abandoned after a religious sect burned down the band’s rehearsal space.
After lineup changes and a period of inactivity, songwriting resumed in 2006 with guitarist Vathar. The band’s second album, “Black Arrows of Hatred”, was recorded by Vathar, Grom, and Saurg and released by EastSide (Poland), with a later Mexican edition through Witchcraft Records. Its third album, Dark Poetry, followed in 2010 via Metal Scrap Records / More Hate Productions. Dämmerung entered another creative pause in 2011.
In 2018, Vathar and Saurg revived the band. The following year, they self-released the limited split Shadows Over the Southern Steppe with fellow Kherson bands Gjallarhorn and Demonium. “Son of the Mourning Star” is the band’s fourth full-length.
